Records relate specifically to judicial directives by the Appellate Court of the First District of the State Supreme Court. Collection contains hundreds of thousands of cases, each docket containing the names of the plaintiff and the defendant and the court's decision. Included among the cases are divorce proceedings, and business and theatrical litigation concerning breach of contract, fraud, copyright infringement, and patent violation.

The State Legislature, by virtue of Chapter 444 of the laws of 1908, introduced the Torrens system as an alternative method of real property title registration.
